Axis Bank said its Managing Director and CEO Shikha Sharma has retired, effective December-31, 2018. "We wish to inform you that Shikha Sharma, Managing Director and CEO of Axis Bank Limited, has retired from services of bank and has accordingly ceased to be Managing Director and CEO of the bank, with effect from close of business hours on 31st-December-2018," it said in regulatory filing.

HSBC has raised its rating on Indian equities to "neutral" from "underweight" in a regional context on Tuesday, citing recent underperformance and more reasonable valuations. "Since end-August, India underperformed because of issues in local banks, currency weakness and oil price volatility," HSBC analysts said in a note. Despite recent underperformance, these risks remain for Indian equity market.

Fake apps of SBI, ICICI, Axis Bank, Citi and other leading banks are available on Google Play, which may have stolen data of thousands of bank customers, claims a report by IT security firm Sophos Labs. These fake android apps have logo of respective banks which makes it difficult for customers to differentiate between the fake and original apps, it said.

The benchmark BSE index Sensex on Wednesday crashed 550 points to close at 35,975.63, dragged by the falling rupee and automobile, IT and telecom stocks. The Nifty 50 fell 150 points to close at 10,858.25. Yes Bank, Vedanta and Coal India were top gainers, whereas M&M, TCS and Axis Bank were top losers.

At 9.55 am the Sensex was at 36,646, down 5.34 points. The Nifty was at 11,079, up 11.80 points. The market breadth is positive as 914 shares advanced, against a decline of 465 shares, while 67 shares were unchanged. Shares of Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Lupin and Eicher Motors are the top gainers, while Wipro, ONGC, and HCL Tech have lost the most.

Axis Bank said it had received the Reserve Bank of India’s approval to appoint Amitabh Chaudhry as the managing director and chief executive officer for a period of three years. Chaudhry’s term will be effective from 1 January 2019 up to 31 December 2021. Chaudhry, who is currently the MD & CEO of HDFC Life insurance Company Ltd, will succeed current CEO Shikha Sharma.

Third largest private lender Axis-Bank today said it has committed Rs 5-crore towards relief and rehabilitation of the Kerala flood victims, of which Rs 2-crore will go to the CM’s distress relief fund. The bank said the remaining Rs 3-crore will be deployed for rehabilitation of the victims through the bank’s partner NGOs. The bank also said it employees will participate in the relief-measures.

Jet Airways has not yet approached the SBI for any funds, the bank's Chairman Rajnish Kumar said on Tuesday. SBI, HSBC Holdings and Axis Bank are among lenders to the airline, which owes a total of Rs.9,430 crore. India's largest full-service carrier, part-owned by Etihad Airways, had said it was meeting all payment obligations to lenders despite high fuel costs.

Private sector lender Axis Bank has launched a virtual assistant for customers armed with proprietary artificial-intelligence and machine learning algorithms and named it Axis Aha. The chatbot is designed to provide relevant and contextual responses to customer queries and even helps make transactions on the chat window itself. Customers can initiate transactions either through voice or chat, said the bank in a press release.

A special CBI court took cognisance of the second chargesheet filed in the Rs 12,636-crore PNB fraud case and ordered the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, a key accused. The second chargesheet has been registered for a total amount of Rs 7,080.86-crore, covering 142-LOUs and 58-foreign letters of credit. It names 16 entities and individuals, including top PNB officials.
