Sri Lanka police chief had warned of suicide attack threat before blasts

Sri Lanka's police chief made a nationwide alert 10 days before Sunday's bomb attacks in the country that suicide bombers planned to hit "prominent churches", according to the warning seen by AFP. Police chief Pujuth Jayasundara sent an intelligence warning to top officers on April 11 setting out the threat. Atleast 129 people were killed in six bomb attacks Sunday that included three churches.

China province defends ban on Tibetan lessons

Chinese authorities defended a ban on schoolchildren attending informal Tibetan language classes taught by Buddhist monks in western China, as religious and cultural freedoms in the country come under increasing pressure. A county in western Qinghai a province with large Tibetan population that is mostly Buddhist in December ordered an immediate halt to informal language classes taught by monks during the winter school holidays.

India deports second Rohingya group to Myanmar, more expulsions likely

India on Thursday deported a Rohingya Muslim family of five to neighboring Myanmar, the second such group expelled in four months during a crackdown on illegal immigrants. India's Hindu nationalist government regards the Rohingya as illegal aliens and a security risk. It has ordered that tens of thousands of the community, who live in small settlements and slums, be identified and repatriated.

Buddhist monk held in Gaya for alleged sexual abuse of 15 boys

A Buddhist monk was detained in Bihar's Bodh Gaya for allegedly sexually abusing 15 boys from Assam studying at a school-cum-meditation centre run by him. The children have complained that they were thrashed, mistreated and sexually abused in the school, police said. The boys will be sent for medical tests, based on which the case will be registered.

Due to the social boycott in the village, people are being forced to sell their animals and they are being deprived of employment, Raj Kumar, a Dalit, said.
