The District Election Office in Punjab's Hoshiarpur used a picture of Nirbhaya rape convict Mukesh Singh in its poster on poll awareness. "It must be a mistake as no one would have put it on purpose. We will conduct a probe to find out how it happened," Punjab Cabinet Minister Sham Arora said.

The Election Commission on Wednesday, refused to make any changes to the counting process as demanded by the Opposition parties on Tuesday, in a meeting with the commission. On Tuesday, Opposition leaders met the Election Commission (EC) with a demand that it should ensure transparency in the counting process by verifying electronic voting machine (EVM) results with VVPAT slips.

A day before the counting of the votes polled in the Lok Sabha election, the Congress on Wednesday termed as "constitutional travesty" the EC's rejection of Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa's demand that dissent notes should be recorded and alleged that the poll watchdog wanted to set a new precedent of "dark secrets" and "secluded chambers" in performing its duties.

He added, "The onus of ensuring institutional integrity, in this case, lies with the Election Commission." "They must do so and put all speculations to rest," he added.

The Election Commission has announced re-polling in one polling station under Kolkata North parliamentary constituency on Wednesday, according to a notification. The parliamentary constituency voted in the seventh phase on May 19. As per the notice, the re-poll will be held in Room no. 1 polling station at Sanskrit Collegiate School under the Jorasanko Assembly segment. Polling will be held from 7 am-6 pm.

Facebook, Google and Twitter, among other technology firms, have reportedly not agreed to share details of their correspondence with Election Commission with RTI applicants over privacy concerns. Applicants reportedly sought correspondence details about misinformation on social media during general elections and content takedown requests. EC has reportedly not decided if it'll share the details.

The Election Commission declared seizures worth Rs 3,439 crore from across the country, making it the highest ever during a parliamentary election. Tamil Nadu topped the list with seizures worth Rs 950 crore, followed by Rs 552 crore in Gujarat and Rs 426 crore in Delhi. Moreover, the EC received around 500 complaints of Model Code of Conduct violations against parties and candidates.

The Election Commission of India announced that repolling will be conducted in four booths in the state of Kerala from where it was confirmed that bogus votes were cast on April-23 for the Lok Sabha elections. The four polling booths, which includes three booths from Kasaragod and one booth from Kannur will go for repolling on May 19 from 7 am to 6 pm.

Ahead of the last phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on May 19, the Election Commission has ordered Twitter India to remove all the tweets related to exit polls. This comes amid leaks of exit polls being shared on the platform. The seven-phase election began from April 11 and the results are to be announced on May 23.

The Goa Congress has complained to the EC against state's Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai over his comments on "weaponising" the youth and demanded that he be charged with sedition. North Goa district's Youth Congress president Vivek D'Silva in a complaint lodged with the EC on Monday said Mr Sardesai's remark was "an indirect attempt to threaten voters" in the poll-bound Panaji Assembly constituency.
