About 6% of the electorate cast their votes Saturday in the first two-hours of polling for the by-elections to three Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies in Karnataka. While the Lok Sabha constituencies of Shivamogga, Ballari and Mandya recorded 7.16%, 4.4% and 4.18% voting respectively till 9 am, Ramanagara and Jamkhandi assembly constituencies have recorded 7.34 and 9% polling.

Making an emotional appeal to voters in party strong hold of Mandya, Karnataka CM-Kumaraswamy said he is living to serve the people of state, who are his biggest-asset. "I had to go to hospital (because of ill health) day before yesterday. I won't say what was the reason, but the day I betray my people, even though I'm alive I'm like dead," he said.

During a recent interview, Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy said that it is natural that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will be Opposition's PM candidate for 2019 elections since Congress is the largest party of the 'Mahagatbandhan'. He added that Gandhi is willing to go the extra mile to accommodate his allies. The Congress and JD(S) are in alliance in Karnataka.

Karnataka PWD minister and chiefminister H D Kumaraswamy’s brother, H D Revanna, Wednesday rejected allegations that he had grabbed over 54 acres of government land and demanded that the matter be probed. Former Congress minister A Manju has accused members of Revanna’s family of grabbing the government land spread over various survey numbers in Somanahalli Kavalvillage in Hassan district.

The Karnataka Government on Monday announced a reduction in petrol and diesel price by Rs. 2 each. Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said, "Today, we are taking a decision that we are going to reduce Rs. 2 on both petrol and diesel". Earlier on September 10, Karnataka's neighbouring state, Andhra Pradesh also slashed the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs. 2.

Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy has reiterated that English-medium learning will be introduced in government schools as was listed in the budget. Reacting to criticism from pro-Kannada activists and political parties, he said, "More than 90% of those protesting have their children studying in English medium." English-medium classes will first be introduced in 1,000 schools on an experimental basis.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealing for a financial aid of Rs.2,000 crore to carry out relief and rehabilitation process in the flood-affected areas of the state. In his letter, the Karnataka Chief Minister informed that 17 people died and 2,200 houses were damaged due to incessant rains from August 14 to August 22.

Bolstered by the Army, Navy, and Airforce, the state government yesterday intensified relief operations in Kodagu district, as six people were killed in rain-related incidents during the last 24 hours. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy undertook an aerial survey of the district which has been experiencing heavy rain for the past three days.

A man from Mangaluru was arrested by the police for allegedly publishing a derogatory post about Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Facebook page 'Kudla Trolls'. "The post...could have instigated riots," said the police. The post, which has been taken down, showed a woman pointing to a picture of the chief minister, asking, "Who is this?" followed by an abuse.

Activists in north Karnataka renewed their demands for separate state, alleging that they were not being adequately represented in state cabinet and their concerns were not met in 5 July budget presented by CM H.D.Kumaraswamy. The protests have added to the troubles of the barely three-month-old coalition government led by Kumaraswamy. Uttara Karnataka Horata Samithi, called for bandh across 13 districts in the region.
