The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China passed 490 on Wednesday, as two U.S. airlines suspended flights to Hong Kong following the first fatality there and 10 cases were confirmed on a quarantined Japanese cruise ship. Across mainland China, there were 3,887 new confirmed infections, bringing the total accumulated number to 24,324.

According to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) report, one in 10 Indians will develop cancer during their lifetime, while one in 15 Indians will die of the disease. The six most common cancer types in India are breast cancer, oral cancer, cervical cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, and colorectal cancer, together accounting for 49% of all new cancer cases.

A suspected case of deadly coronavirus has been detected in Pakistan's Sindh province in an engineering student who has been quarantined by authorities following his return from China. Shahzaib Ali Rahuja, a petroleum engineering student at a Chinese university situated around 1,000 kms from Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, returned to the country from China via Qatar, his brother Irshad Ali said.

A Chinese woman infected with the new coronavirus showed a dramatic improvement after she was treated with a cocktail of anti-virals used to treat flu & HIV, Thailand's health ministry said. The 71-year-old patient tested negative for the virus 48 hours after Thai doctors administered the combination, doctor Kriengsak Attipornwanich said during the ministry's daily press briefing.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to a hospital in Delhi, sources said today. Mrs Gandhi, 73, is being treated for fever and breathing issues, they said. Her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are also at the hospital, sources said, adding the Congress chief was admitted to the hospital near central Delhi at 7 pm.

Regulator Irdai has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore each on ICICI Lombard GIC and Tata AIG General Insurance Company for violation of various norms. The regulator has slapped the penalty on ICICI Lombard for violation of certain provisions related to health insurance policies. Irdai has also issued certain directions and advisory to the company.

The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in China has soared to 106 while nearly 1,300 new cases have been confirmed, authorities said. The health commission in central Hubei province, the epicentre of the epidemic, said 24 more people had died from the virus and 1,291 more people were infected, raising the total number of confirmed cases to more than 4,000 nationwide.

The Goa government has decided to form a special task force to monitor cases, if any, of coronavirus in the tourist state. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that people arriving in Goa from the virus-affected regions outside India would be closely monitored. The task force will work as per the guidelines laid down by the Union Ministry of Health, he added.
