Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is seeking to return to power for the fifth consecutive time, owns assets worth over Rs.63.87 crore but has only Rs.25,000 cash in hand. His car an Ambassador of 1980 model is valued at around Rs. 8905, as per an affidavit submitted by Patnaik along with his nomination for the coming assembly election from Hinjili seat.

The recent reforms ushered in by the government are creating new livelihoods across existing and emerging sectors, with eight segments of the economy alone expected to create over 10-crore jobs by 2025, CII said. There were only 61 individuals who declared an income of more than Rs 100 crore during the assessment year 2017-18, though the number has risen sharply from 38 in the previous year. This information was provided by Minister of State for Finance Pon Radhakrishnan to the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Talking about the 10% reservation for economically weaker section of general category, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, "How can someone earning Rs 8 lakh a year be called poor?" "Its strange mathematics...one who can pay Rs 72,500 as tax is being given reservation by this government, he added. He also demanded at least 40% quota from the existing 27% for the OBCs.

The Gujarat government said it will only consider Rs. 8 lakh annual income cap and not take into account land and house ownership criteria for providing 10 percent reservation to candidates from the economically weaker sections (EWS) in the general category. This was decided by the state cabinet at its meeting in Ahmedabad.

The ruling BJP has amassed over Rs.553 crore as income from unknown sources in 2017-18, which is 80% of total such income and four times the aggregate declared by the five other national parties. According to a report by ADR, a total of Rs.689.44 crore was declared as income from unknown sources by the national parties, of which the BJP pocketed Rs.553.38 crore.

The Lokayukta Police raided the premises of a forest officer in Madhya Pradesh and found unaccounted assets worth more than Rs 2 crore. The raids were conducted based on a complaint that 61-year-old Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) RN Saxena had assets disproportionate to his income. Saxena had earned Rs 60 lakh as salary since joining the government job in 1995.

State-owned Indian Bank Friday reported a 66.7% dip in its net profit at 150.1 crore for the second quarter ended September on account of increase in bad loans. The banks net profit in the corresponding July-September quarter of 2017-18 was at 451.5 crore. However, total income of the bank increased to 5,129.16 crore for the September quarter this year.

Gujaratis declared a whopping Rs 18,000 crore in four months flat under the Income Declaration Scheme (IDS), about 29% of the total unaccounted money disclosed across the country. This happened between June and September 2016, before black money hogged the spotlight courtesy demonetisation and even ahead of property dealer Mahesh Shah's disclosure of illegal income of Rs 13,860 crore.
