BJP vice-president Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of "fleeing the battlefield" after his party faced a debacle in the Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a press-conference in Guwahati, Mr Chauhan said those who had criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi were nowhere to be seen after the elections results were out. Those who criticised PM Modi had to face the greatest electoral defeat.

The central government had spent about Rs. 4,000 crore in 2018-19 on procurement of EVMs for the recently-held Lok Sabha elections. In this budget, Rs. 1,000 crore has been earmarked for the Lok Sabha elections. According to the budget document, the provision is for meeting carry forward liability in respect of charges for conduct of Lok Sabha elections.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) is likely to lose its national party status following the debacle in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections in which the party won just two seats. The CPI along with the BSP and the Nationalist Congress Party was facing the prospects of losing their national party status after their dismal performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as well.

More than 100 legislators of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress are in touch with the BJP, party-leader Mukul Roy claimed today as three more lawmakers joined the BJP on the second consecutive day. The BJP has promised seven-round exodus of lawmakers from Ms Banerjee's party to match with seven-phase election. The lawmakers who jumped ship today were Manirul Islam, Gadadhar Hazra and Mohd Asif Iqbal.

Amid speculation that JDS-Congress coalition may collapse following its drubbing in the LS-polls, Karnataka BJP Chief BS Yeddyurappa said his party favoured fresh assembly elections in such an event, ruling out partnering with the regional party to form a new government. Forming a government with JDS help is an impossibility. I have had a distasteful experience of 20-20 rule under Mr Kumaraswamy's chief ministership.

The BJP's massive win in Uttar Pradesh has paved the way for the first reshuffle of CM Yogi Adityanath's council of ministers as three ministers have won the Lok Sabha election creating vacancies in the state Cabinet. Also, a vacancy was created after disgruntled minister and SBSP leader O.P.Rajbhar was sacked by the CM for his outburst against his senior NDA partner, the BJP.

After drawing a blank in the Lok Sabha elections, former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Samata Party Sunday received yet another setback as all three of its members in the bicameral legislature joined Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U). Notably, the RLSP legislators had earlier revolted against Kushwaha's decision to snap ties with the NDA and join the Mahagathbandhan.

About 8,000 voters opted for the none of the above (NOTA) button in elections to the Baramulla parliamentary constituency of Jammu and Kashmir which was won by National Conference's Mohammad Akbar Lone. In Baramulla constituency of north Kashmir, 7,999 voters pressed the NOTA button, an election official said. He said NOTA secured 1.79 percent of the total votes polled in the constituency.

Twitter India said conversations around the 2019 Lok Sabha elections grew 600 percent from 2014 to reach 396 million tweets between January-1 and May-23. During the course of the six weeks of the election from April-11 till May-19, national security emerged as the most talked about election-related topic on Twitter, followed by religion, jobs and employment, agriculture, and finally demonetisation, Twitter India said.

Five months after it lost three heartland states to the Congress, the BJP powered back there in the Lok Sabha elections - an outcome likely to give credence to its claim that its voter base in the state remains intact. While in Rajasthan it is a clean sweep, in Madhya Pradesh, the party is expected to win 28 of the 29 seats.
