Rs.12,305 cr disbursed so far to farmers under PM-KISAN scheme

The Centre has disbursed Rs.12,305-crore so far to beneficiaries under the PM-KISAN programme that aims to boost farmers income by providing them Rs.6,000/year in three equal instalments. "Recently, the government has initiated the PM-KISAN scheme effective from February-1 to enable farmers to take care of expenses related to agriculture and allied activities as well as domestic needs," Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said.

Farmers likely to land 2nd instalment of Rs 2k before polls

The Centre plans to pay farmers the second-instalment of Rs.2,000 under the PM-KISAN scheme before the general elections, as it sees no conflict with the code of conduct once the first-payment is made ahead of the formal announcement of polls. This will give small and marginal farmers, who are at the heart of the election strategy of every party, Rs.4,000 each before the polls.

Hindi belt states main target of PM-KISAN scheme

NDA's budget announcement of Rs 6,000 cash transfer programme will mainly benefit marginal and small farmers in Hindi-belt states Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Haryana all of which are electorally key for BJP. A ranking of states by proportion of agricultural households shows the scheme will be somewhat important in Bihar and West Bengal.

10 crore farmers to get Rs 2,000 by March-end: Junior Agri Minister

The government will pay 100 million farmers Rs 2,000 each by the end of March and will be able to swiftly transfer subsequent instalments under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKISAN) scheme for small landholders, minister of state for agriculture Gajendra Shekhawat told. The minister said the first payment may not be as easy as subsequent transfers.
