Progress towards realising the pan-India single tax system, the Goods and Services Tax (GST), will be the biggest achievement of the Narendra Modi-led government, industry organisation Assocham said on Sunday. As the NDA government completes three years in office, besides the GST that was nearing a roll-out, its other achievements on the economic front would be financial inclusion, digitisation and public investment on infrastructure.

In another step to open up China's capital markets, Hong Kong and Chinese regulators formally approved a long-awaited scheme to connect China's $9 trillion bond market with overseas investors. The so-called Bond Connect program has been in the works since Beijing launched a similar scheme connecting Hong Kong and Shanghai stock markets in 2014.

President Donald Trump made $150 million and paid $38 million in taxes -- apparently in 2005. That would give the president an effective tax rate of about 25.3 percent for that tax year. While the statement didn’t specify the tax year. the network "desperate for ratings" for being willing to violate the law by releasing Trump’s returns.

Chairman of Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla, could be appointed the chairman of the new telecom entity, created out of the proposed merger between Idea Cellular and Vodafone India. Both Companies are in discussion to form a joint business, in an all-share deal. This would create a stronger telco, able to take on market leader Bharti Airtel and new entrant, Reliance Jio Infocomm.

The service tax department has summoned tennis player Sania Mirza, for alleged evasion of service tax. The summons were issued by the Principal Commissioner of service tax office in Hyderabad to Sania Mirza, on February 6th. She has to appear in person or through an authorized agent on February 16th.
