In respect of capital asset acquired before 1st April, 2001 is there any special method to compute cost of acquisition?

Usually, the cost of acquisition of a capital asset is the cost incurred while acquiring the asset. However, in case the capital asset is acquired before 1st April 2001 the cost of acquisition will be higher than the actual cost of acquisition of the asset as on April 1st, 2001.
