Is direct or indirect tax better?

1. Direct taxes are taxes on income, property, capital gains etc. Whereas, indirect taxes are taxes on goods and services. 2. In the case of indirect taxes, the rich and poor should pay equal tax rate while they purchase a commodity. Whereas, indirect taxes don't consider the income of the consumer.
