What is the tax treatment of arrears of rent?

The amount received on account of arrears of rent and is not taxed earlier will be taxable after deducting 30% of the total amount. It is charged to tax in the year rent is received. Irrespective of the property's ownership, the taxpayer will be charged this amount during the year of receipt.
